Merton High Street/South Wimbledon Gas Works

Monday, 23 July, 2018

The gas network in the Merton High Street area of South Wimbledon is being upgraded.

This is part of a £418,000 investment to replace the old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe.

The project will started on Monday 23 July and is expected to last approximately three months.

Engineers will be working at the junction of Merton High Street, A219 Morden Road and A238 Kingston Road - just in front of South Wimbledon Tube Station.

This means there is a temporary four-way traffic lights system while the work continues. There are also temporary pedestrian crossings at the junction.

More information and updates on the works can be found here.

All businesses in the local area will remain open as usual. There is a compensation scheme in place for small local businesses which suffer a genuine loss of trade because of the work. More information regarding this can be found here.
