United Kingdom Internal Market Bill

Last night in the House of Commons I spoke in the Second Reading Debate of the Internal Market Bill.

I made it clear that I support the general aims of the Bill and much of its content are necessary to ensure that the competences that return to the UK from the EU are put into UK law.

Fire Safety Bill

The fire at Grenfell was a tragedy and we owe it to the victims to make sure it never happens again. I fully realise that people are eager to see changes to fire safety legislation – as am I – and for these reforms to happen quickly.

A Level Results

Update - 17/8/20

I am pleased to see that this year’s A level and GCSE results will now be based on teacher's assessments.

I hope this will bring the reward and certainty every student and their families were hoping for.

Earlier this month local NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups approved the plans for a £500m investment for Epsom and St Helier hospitals, and the construction of a brand new specialist hospital in Sutton.

 

Trade Bill

I thought it would be helpful to set out my thinking regarding New Clause 4 to the Trade Bill.

I agree with about the importance of effective Parliamentary scrutiny; however, it is my view that the provisions outlined in New Clause 4 are not necessary.

NHS Staff Testing and Pay

NHS staff, care workers and other medical professionals are on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus, and I am in awe of their dedication, skill and professionalism.

I understand that parents across the country are going through particularly difficult and stressful times. We have never had a period of schooling disruption like this.  After weeks of home schooling, I know parents and children alike will be longing for a return to normality.
